A busy week in varsity basketball saw the Mariner varsity boys score their first win on December, a close 53-52 over Shead, by way of a Krisford Melanio three-pointer with 6 seconds left. It was a close game all the way, said our Mariner columnist Jack Scott. The boys are 1-3 for the season so far.
The Lady Mariners are still looking for a win, after falling 58-42 to Shead. They trailed 19 points after the first quarter and could not catch up despite a rally in effort.
Both teams face Bucksport in away games on Thursday, December 17. The boys tip off at 5:30 p.m. and the girls at 7 p.m.
There was no stopping the Eagles after ending a first quarter against Calais on December 12 17 points up. They finished 51-35—Taylor Schildroth’s 25 points leading the team to the win. The Eagles are 3-0, facing Bucksport in an away game on Tuesday at 7 p.m.
The Lady Eagles lost a close 53-49 game at Calais on December 11, after trailing 17-6 at the end of the first quarter. Morgan Dauk lead GSA with 24 points and Mazie Smallidge chipped in 10. The Lady Eagles are 1-2 for the season. They face Bucksport at Bucksport High School on December 14, at 7 p.m.
