Blue Hill—The #2 Eagles lost the final regular season game 3-2, to the top-ranked Golden Bucks on June 4 in play dominated by three up-three down innings. The Eagles had won the previous meeting 7-5 earlier in the season.
With both teams scoring one run in the first inning, the board didn’t change until the top of the sixth. Bucksport put two runners on base with a hit and a walk off pitcher Kelsey Allen, who was then relieved by Garrison Looke.
An immediate solid grounder from the Golden Bucks’ hitter brought in two RBIs. “Way too good,” was muttered from the GSA bench. The score was 3-1. Looke quickly brought the Eagles back to bat where, first up, he swung for a deep hit to center field. Safe at first, Looke stole second and then crossed home plate off a line drive by Harrison Vinall that snaked past third base. The Bucks tagged out the next two batters at first, for a 3-2 score at the top of the seventh…the bottom of the seventh… and after Bucksport made quick work of the Eagles lineup…a final score.
GSA goes into the playoff quarterfinals with a 13-3 record when they face prelim winner #7 Orono or #10 Fort Kent on their home field on June 11.
