GSA Eagles clinch the Eastern Class C title

The George Stevens Academy boys tennis team didn’t let go against #3 Piscataquis, winning their sixth straight Eastern Class C title 5-0 on June 9 at Colby College. Doubles team Tim Dentino and Matt Stephens opened with a win, followed by second singles player Nate Boechat. Luke Theoharidis, third singles player, cemented the win. First singles Tate Yoder and second doubles team David Reinke and Ben Politte completed the sweep.  The team is 13-1 and headed for the state finals on June 13 in Lewiston where they will face either Hall-Dale or Waynflete—the South Portland team they’ve faced—and fallen to— four of the last five years.

GSA  had a winning road to the regional title, crushing Deer Isle-Stonington 5-0 in the quarterfinal and topping Fort Kent 3-2 in the semifinals. Their number one ranking earned them home court advantage and a home crowd to cheer them on.

The Eagles are 9 for 11 Eastern titles since 2002, they year they were also crowned state champions. The championship will be held at Lewiston High School on June 13, 4:30 p.m.
