Deer Isle—The George Stevens ball teams traveled over the Deer Isle-Sedgwick bridge on May 8 to face the Mariners in a season chaotic with cancellations and postponements from rain.
On the Island, skies threatened, and even threw down some light rain, but the games went on, with the Eagles baseball team beating Deer Isle-Stonington 11-3 after breaking a 2-2 second-inning tie, while the softball team fell 14-9 to the Mariners.
The two varsity teams are having opposite seasons, with the George Stevens varsity baseball team 7-0 and on top of the Heal Point Standings, with wins this week against Bucksport (3-0) on May 3 and a bottom-of-the-seventh-inning 7-6 win against Central on May 9.
On the other end of the spectrum, the Eagles varsity softball team is 0-7, after hanging in with Central on May 9 in early innings before falling 23-5 and getting shut out by Bucksport 14-0 on May 3.
Both teams are on the road for the next week, with games against Washington Academy on May 12 and Orono on May 15 before returning to their home field on May 18 against Ellsworth—weather permitting.
