Eagle track teams take firsts in ‘Relay Carnival’

Blue Hill—In a competitive field of mostly Class A and B schools, the George Stevens boys pulled out two first place finishes at the Brewer Invitational Relay Carnival on May 8.

“Conditions were wicked and we did a great job working together and performed very well,” Coach Erich Reed told his team after the meet.

Ollie Dillon, Jeremiah Scheff, Trent Williamson and Meredith Bradshaw Thomas teamed up for a 9:23.98 win in the 800 meter relay over the Brewer “A” team by a mere 1.5 seconds.

In the distance medley relay, Dillon, Scheff, Cameron Gordon and John Hassett won in 11:11.63, with an 18-second margin over second-place Orono.

Eagle teams also placed second in the 1600 sprint medley and 400 meter relays, while Joseph Norwood finished second in the javelin throw.

In points, both the girls and boys teams came in fifth in the 10-team meet, with the boys scoring 43.75 points  and the girls 58. The Brewer boys (113 points) and girls (124  points) won the meet.

Two-time state javelin champion Morgan Dauk took that event easily  in a field of 33. Two second-place finishes came from the girls distance medley team of Eliza Broughton, Mary Brenna Catus, Zeya Lorio and Mary Richardson, and the 60 meter shuttle hurdle team of Broughton, Bella Cimeno and Mazie Smallidge.

The outdoor track team will travel to Caribou on Saturday, May 13, for a 12 p.m. meet.
