Blue Hill—In an April 18 opening game of the varsity season, the George Stevens Academy softball team held on against the Sumner Tigers for five innings for a 5-5 tie, before Sumner pulled away, scoring 15 runs in the final innings for a 20-5 loss for the Eagles.
The team followed up by falling to Washington Academy by a wider margin on April 24. Out hit by the Raiders in the first three innings and falling behind 20-0, the Eagles pulled in two runs in the fourth inning for a final 20-2 score.
With a roster heavy with freshmen and players new to the team, George Stevens is working to find its footing as a team.
Games against Orono, Ellsworth and Central in the next week will give them more time on the field as they look for their first win.
