Blue Hill—The Eagles varsity baseball team opened its season showing why it captured the Class C North regional title win in 2016—a tight infield and an astute eye at bat.

In the team’s home opener against Sumner on April 18, the Eagles sprinted to a 4-1 lead after one inning, and followed the strong start with two runs in the third and two in the sixth for an 8-3 win over the Tigers. Senior Beckett Slayton and junior Taylor Schildroth each contributed a pair of singles, with Schildroth scoring twice, while junior Tyler McKenney singled once and batted in a run.

Back on home field on April 24, after rain postponed play on Saturday, the Eagles kept Washington Academy off the scoreboard for a 3-0 win.

The Eagles face Class B Ellsworth in Ellsworth on Thursday, at 4:30 p.m.
