Blue Hill—Both the George Stevens Academy girls and boys varsity tennis teams have done nothing but win—so far.
In opening matches against the young team of Deer Isle-Stonington, and then the Lee Academy Pandas, the boys didn’t drop a set. The girls won 5-0 against the Mariners and 3-2 against the Pandas.
The boys are on a longtime winning streak in regular season, holding the regional title, and have won in the Eastern Maine division for the last six years, and 11 times in the last 15 years.
This year’s team features seniors Matt Stephens playing first singles, Beowulf Urban playing second singles and Ben Politte playing third singles, who all handily won their matches against both teams. First doubles team Aidan Byrne and Leif Lyon-Miller, both seniors, and second doubles team Kent Fang and junior Joseph Boulet also cruised to victories.
The girls all-senior squad lost their first and second singles matches against Lee—Erin Niehoff fell 8-3 and Abbey Frost 8-6—before doubles teams seniors Hunter Morris and Jenna Gray, and Grace Hylan and Vivian Cheng scored victories, as did third singles player Lindsay Nevin.
The girls took home the Eastern title in 2007, 2009, 2011 and 2012.
