ORONO—Powered by two goals by John Larson early in the second half, the George Stevens Academy boys varsity soccer team faced down #4 Orono 2-1 in a quarterfinal match up. After a first half that saw GSA scrambling to defend its goal, only to let Orono score with 6:50 to go, the Eagles went on the offensive. Goalkeeper Julian Lindholm Fiske stayed strong at the net throughout the second half, saving a penalty kick that would have tied the game with 13 minutes left in the half. Both teams had chances with open kicks to the goal that went wide but GSA offense kept the pressure on to secure their first win over Orono in three match ups. This one counted, edging GSA into the semifinals. They face #1 Washington Academy, who have yet to lose this season. Game time is Friday, 3 p.m., in Machias.
