Deer Isle—The boys baseball team lost to Sumner 14-1 on May 15. Jacob Gell pitched and was relieved by Dillan Steele who pitched well in relief. Four errors in the first inning led to four unearned runs right off the bat. It set the tone for the game. We managed two hits, one each from Nate Thompson and Coleman Brown.

The boys lost two similar five-inning games to Greenville on May 18, 8-0 and 13-2. Jacob Gell pitched the first game, and we didn’t manage a hit. Myles Brown pitched the second game, and we got one hit from new recruit Thomas Thompson.
The boys are still looking for a victory. We haven’t been able to overcome errors that lead to big innings as we give our opponents extra outs. We also haven’t been able to get offensive production of any significance. This is the frustration of a rebuilding year where we have new players that are gaining experience. This will certainly pay off next year, but we are hoping to see results sooner rather than later.
