Blue Hill—The George Stevens Academy baseball team piled up the runs early in a 17-2 victory over Sumner Memorial High School on Tuesday, May 21.
The team held Sumner scoreless in the top half of the first inning, despite allowing back-to-back hits to put two runners on base. In the bottom half, poor pitching from the away team allowed the Eagles to walk in several runs. George Stevens Academy capitalized pitches on that did hit the strike zone, and knocked out a couple singles and doubles to give the team the 6-0 edge early on.

Sumner managed a run in the second inning, but the Eagles tacked on another six runs to go up 12-1 after two. The team scored five more runs en route to the five-inning victory.
The Sumner game was the third game for the Eagles in five days. The heavy schedule will not let up, as the team plays Thursday, May 23, at Mattanawcook Academy before back-to-back home games against Central (May 24) and a Memorial Day game against Bucksport on May 27.
With the win on Tuesday, the Eagles are 10-1 in first place in the Class C North standings, with Central (8-3) in second and Bucksport (5-7) in third. George Stevens Academy beat both teams on the road in the first contests against them this season.

Barring any weather issues, the Eagles are set to wrap up their regular season on May 29 when they face Deer-Isle Stonington High School in an away game. As the first place team, they will receive a bye into the quarterfinals, which are scheduled for June 6. Because they are the highest seed, that game will be played at home.
The final two home games of the regular season against Central and Bucksport are both scheduled for 4:30 p.m.
