Deer Isle—The girls softball team beat Bangor Christian 18-5 on Wednesday, May 8, in five innings. Brittany Gray pitched the entire game. We got up early and just kept building the lead. Taylor Hardy had a double and two singles with five RBIs, Brittany Gray had a triple and a double, and Abby Stinson, Kristin Thompson, and Grace Morey each had two singles and an RBI.
The girls won a doubleheader with Jonesport 14-1 and 17-3 on May 11. In the first game, Taylor Hardy was dialed in, with eight strikeouts, giving up two hits and hardly any walks. Brienna Limeburner had a home run with two RBIs, Taylor Hardy had two singles with two RBIs, Makayla Lebel had two singles, Sadie Rice had a game ending single with two RBIs, and Abby Stinson, Kaylee Morey, Lily Gray, and Kristin Thompson each had a single.

In game two, Taylor Hardy pitched another strong game with nine strikeouts. This also was a one-sided game. Kaylee Morey had a double and two singles with three RBIs, Rylee Eaton had a triple and a double with two RBIs, Brienna Limeburner had a single with three RBIs, and Abby Stinson and Kristin Thompson each had a single.
The girls lost to top ranked Penobscot Valley 9-5 on May 13. We suffered a 22-1 drubbing at the beginning of the season to them and we played them toe to toe in this game. Makayla Lebel set the tone in the first inning with a home run over the left field fence. Pitcher Taylor Hardy struggled a bit in the second inning and PVHS scored eight runs.
Instead of folding our tent, we struck back, and Taylor Hardy settled down, giving up six hits overall with five strikeouts. We scored three runs, fueled by a two RBI single by Abby Stinson and another run in the fifth inning to trail 8-5. We had them rattled, as they have not had any games this close, but couldn’t keep our momentum with more hits. Leine McKechnie showed why she has been pitcher of the year in the past and PVHS closed out the game.
Was this a moral victory? Yes, I think so because we showed ourselves that we can play along with them. Makayla Lebel added another single to her home run and we were not totally overpowered at the plate. Our defense was good. Brienna Limeburner threw a perfect relay to catcher Kaylee Morey who nailed the runner trying for home.
The girls are 7-2 and currently in 8th place in the standings. We have three important games this week against Sumner and a doubleheader with Greenville. How we fare in these games will set our place in the standings because the rest of our games will be with weak teams which won’t give us many Heal Points.
