Deer Isle-Stonington High School’s Mason Plummer gets a head on the ball during a home game against Schenck on September 8. By Jack Scott
Deer Isle—The boys soccer team lost a forgettable game to Searsport 16-0. Yes, this is a building year, but we are also short-handed for several games for various reasons. This was a game where we are still working out the positions and things did not go well.
The boys lost to Schenck 6-0 in a better effort. Elijah Stinson was in goal and a couple goals were made after he made the initial save, but we couldn’t clear the ball. We did try to pass back and forth to slow down the game, but Schenck was quick to take back control.
The boys lost to a strong Sumner team 13-0. Once again, having only 12 players against a team that plays so well together makes it hard to keep up. You would never know it by the score, but Elijah Stinson made several point-blank saves in goal.
The boys are 0-4 and need to get all their players on the field at the same time. This is a building year (you will hear that a lot) but we need to have all the pieces, so they can get working together. Obviously the defense needs to tighten up, but when the offense and midfield gain more control, that will take some of the pressure off them.
