DISHS softball team wins three in five days

Deer Isle—The girls softball team won a wild game with Schenck, 24-23 on May 22. Schenck scored 10 runs in the first inning and it didn’t look good. We battled back to trail 17-14 after 5 innings but then Schenck scored 5 runs to lead 22-14. We rallied for 9 runs in the bottom of the sixth to take our first lead 23-22. Schenck scored a run in the seventh to tie it up, but we got the winning run in the bottom of the seventh for the win.

Brienna Limeburner had 3 doubles and a single for 4 RBIs, Taylor Hardy had 3 singles for 6 RBIs, Makayla Lebel had 3 singles for 3 RBIs, Kaylee Morey had 2 doubles for an RBI, Kayley Eaton had a double and a single for 3 RBIs, Katie Hutchinson had 2 singles, and Abby Stinson and Kristin Thompson each had a single.

The girls won a close game with Jonesport 7-5 on May 25. Taylor Hardy pitched the entire game with 13 walks and 5 hits, but it helped that we only committed 1 error. We got ahead 7-1 with 3 runs in the third and 2 runs in the fifth inning, but Jonesport battled their way back to make it close. We held them to 1 run in the bottom of the seventh to preserve the win.

Taylor Hardy had 2 singles with an RBI, Abby Stinson had a double and a single for an RBI, Brienna Limeburner had a double, Makayla Lebel had a 2 RBI single, and Kaylee Morey and Grace Morey each had a single.

The girls easily beat Machias 21-1 the following day, May 26. Taylor Hardy pitched giving up only 1 hit. This was the first one sided game we have won. Kaylee Morey had a big day at the plate with a home run over the fence, 2 doubles and a single, Deja Benner had 4 singles for 6 RBIs, Abby Stinson had 2 doubles, Makayla Lebel had a double and a single, Kristin Thompson and Taylor Hardy each had 2 singles, and Grace Morey, Katie Hutchinson, and Brienna Limeburner each had a single.

The girls are 6-8 and in 8th place by 1.5 Heal Points. Our pitching is better, and we still need to take control of our defense, which is good some of the time. We have two more games this week, which we can win to end up with a .500 record.
