Blue Hill—George Stevens Academy hosted the Mount Desert Island Trojans May 17, with the baseball team edged out in the last innings while the softball team failed spectacularly, ending 20-1 with a mercy-rule halt at the end of the fifth inning.
In baseball, the Trojans pulled ahead in the fourth inning for a 2-0 lead and kept the winning edge despite George Stevens rallying in the final innings. The final score was 6-3. Sophomore Austin Snow pitched the first five innings, giving up two runs, with Owen Vinall and Memphis Parker on the mound for the final two innings.
The game on the softball field told a different story as MDI raced to a 10-1 lead that they extended to 20-1 in the fifth inning. Juniors Heather Munroe tripled and Mallory Charette singled for the sole Eagles run. The Eagles followed up with a 13-1 loss to Dexter (13-1) the following afternoon, and to Sumner (8-5) May 22 for a 1-12 record heading into the final stretch of the season. They stand two spots outside the playoff cut-off, ranked 12th in the Heal Point Standings.
The Eagles baseball team picture looks brighter as they are 8-5 after beating Sumner 10-1 on Tuesday jumping to the fourth spot in the standings with not a whole lot of separation between second through seventh teams.
After playing at Central Friday, May 25, both teams will return home to face Bucksport on Monday, May 28, and Deer Isle-Stonington May 30 before playoffs start on June 5.
