Deer Isle—The Deer Isle-Stonington cheerleaders are getting ready to head to the Cross Center in Bangor on Saturday, January 24. They will compete in the Class D Eastern Regional Championships, their first competition of the season.
“The cheerleaders have been working hard on their competition routine,” Coach Kim Yurchick said.
This is the first year Yurchick has coached the team, which lost a core group of seniors, part of a squad that won the state title in 2013.
“We have a smaller squad this year,” Yurchick acknowledged. The team skipped the Penobscot Valley Conference championships earlier this month but has held regular practices to learn their routines as well as performing for the boys and girls basketball games.
The Mariners are scheduled to take the floor at 12:15 p.m. on January 24. The Cross Center opens at 7 a.m., with Class D competition beginning at 12 p.m.
