GSA tennis teams split latest matches

Blue Hill—The George Stevens Academy boys and girls tennis teams hit road blocks against Mattanawcook Academy of Lincoln on April 30, with the boys losing 2-3 and the girls falling 1-4.

In the boys match, Kent Fang was the only singles winner. Joey Mitchell and Liam Webb took their second doubles match over Mattanawcook’s second doubles team. Quinn Stabler dropped his second singles match, while Bowan Sul was defeated in third singles. Lars Hooper and Oscar Son lost their first doubles match as well.

On the girls side, Courtney Bianco was the only George Stevens Academy tennis player to record a victory, winning her third singles match by a score of 8-4. Second doubles team Yulia Haggestad and Katie Schweitzer fell short in a 4-8 loss, while the first doubles team of Chloe Politte and Libby Weed lost 2-8. First singles player Lindsay Nevin lost 4-8, as did second singles player Julianna Allen.

Coach Tim Farrar said that the match could be a preview of the Class C North final later this season.

The teams were also in action on April 27, this time each picking up 5-0 wins against Deer Isle-Stonington High School.

In that contest, Fang defeated Devon Emrick 8-1, and Stabler beat out Ben Penfold 8-4. Sul took an 8-5 win over Dakota Emrick to round out singles action. In doubles, Hooper and Son defeated Oskar Mattes and Mason Plummer, 8-5, and Mitchell and Webb picked up the 8-4 win over Ennis Marshall and Ian Cust.

In girls action, Nevin cruised to an 8-0 first singles win against Emma Plummer, while Allen and Bianco both recorded 8-1 wins in second and third singles, against Rylee Eaton and Ella Marshall, respectively. In doubles, Haggestad and Ericka Hipskey won their second doubles match 8-2 against Ariel Larrabee and Jill McDonald, and Politte and Weed won first doubles by a score of 8-1 over Lily Gray and Addie McDonald.
