Mariner girls stay undefeated for 15-0 Claw out win over Greenville

Deer Isle—The Mariners brought home a very exciting 37-35 win over the Greenville Lakers January 24. They survived a very sluggish first half where they scored only 6 points to trail 20-6.

Coach Randy Shepard changed to full court pressure to energize the girls, and they clawed their way back into the game. They led by 3 points with 30 seconds left when Greenville tied it up with a traditional 3-point play. They held on for the last shot, with 6 seconds left, Kaylee Morey found a wide open teammate, as Rylee Eaton scored the winning basket.

In a game where they needed second-half heroics to pull out a win, they were victorious. Kaylee Morey led the team with 13 points and many steals, Orly Vaughn with 7 points, Lily Gray and Rylee Eaton each with 5.

Against Machias on January 27, the team came out strong and kept up their lead the entire game. Coach Randy Shepard said it was a great team effort, and everyone played a lot. Lily Gray led us with 15 points, Rylee Eaton with 9 points, Kaylee Morey, Orly Vaughn and Peyton Rice each contributed 8 points.

The Mariners closed the week hosting Bangor Christian for senior night January 29. They came out very strong and kept up a big lead. Rylee Eaton led the team with 14 points, Lily Gray with 13 points, Katie Hutchinson with 10, Kaylee Morey with 9 and Peyton Rice with 7. The Lady Mariners will host Searsport on February 5 at 6 p.m. At 15-0, they are one win away from an undefeated regular season.
