Sophomore Katie Hutchinson makes a clean block against Bucksport December 21. By Jack Scott
Deer Isle—The girls basketball team beat Bucksport 57-39 on December 21. We played well in the first half, with good foul shooting, to lead 26-15 at the half. Both teams had foul trouble, but we shot better in the third quarter to lead 44-25 after three.
With assistant coach Elissa Haskell at the helm, she was able to substitute a lot of the younger players in the last quarter. With three starters in foul trouble, that worked out well and again they gained valuable floor time. Lily Gray led us with 21 points, Kaylee Morey 12, Katie Hutchinson 9, and Taylor Hardy 5.
The girls next won a close game against Greenville 40-35 on December 27. We started out strong and built up a good lead. Greenville had a strong post player who got hot and they closed the gap. We changed our defense and held onto our lead for the win. We broke the press well and kept our composure. Katie Hutchinson had 12 points, Brienna Limeburner 11, Kaylee Morey 8, and Lily Gray 7.
On December 29, the girls beat Jonesport 38-31. We played a good man-to-man defense to shut down the high scorers for Jonesport. We led throughout but one of the other Jonesport players dropped in a couple 3-pointers to close the gap some in the second half.
