BLUE HILL—Perennial powerhouse in the east, George Stevens Academy Eagles varsity tennis team will face the #2 Orono Red Riots tomorrow for the Class C Eastern championship and a chance to swing for a state title—and an answer to Orono’s 3-1 win over the Eagles on May 25, their last regular season match.
The match will be held at the University of Maine at Orono at 9:30 a.m.
The Eagles have won the state title the last six years, falling in the state finals to Waynflete. In the last 10 years, GSA was won the title nine times; they last won the state title in 2004.
In a 3-2 semifinal win over Fort Kent on June 4, singles players Beowulf Urban and Ben Politte, and doubles team Kent Fang-Christian Jones secured the win. The victory followed a 5-0 sweep over Piscataquis in the quarterfinal on June 1.
