Blue Hill—The George Stevens Academy boys varsity tennis team is top ranked heading into the season-ending Class C tournament, with only Mattanawcook, at 11-0, boasting a better season record. Their quarterfinal will be played at home, on June 2.
While Mattanawcook holds the better record, in Heal Tournament Points they are far behind, 135.62-75.83, closer to third-ranked Deer Isle-Stonington, which holds 69.16 points—and which the Eagles easily beat in the two regular season matches last week at 4-1.
The team crushed #7 Sumner 5-0 on May 21, with first singles player Matt Stephens winning his match 8-3, Ben Politte winning second singles 8-1, and Aidan Byrne at 8-1 in third singles. First doubles team Kent Fang/Leif Lyon-Miller and second doubles John Larson/Boris Chen won their matches 8-2 and 8-1.

The girls varsity team, buoyed by four back-to-back wins, holds the third ranking spot, with a 9-2 record. Recent wins were 4-1 against Deer Isle-Stonington and 5-0 against Sumner, where three matches were forfeited and singles players Hunter Morris won 8-0 as did doubles team Julianna Allen and Tatiana Heggestad.
The Eagles’ last loss came against Orono, a team they also played on May 25, with that score not available by press time. Their only other season loss was to Class B Mount Desert Island.
The top four teams receive a bye in the tournament preliminary match, so the Eagle girls look good to head straight to a home-match quarterfinal on June 2.
