Searsport—The George Stevens Academy boys cross-country team, fueled by top-5 finishes from sophomore Clark Morrison and freshman Sol Lorio, took second place at the Penobscot Valley Conference Championship on October 19.
Freshman Thea Crowley’s first-place finish was the highlight of the day for the girls’ team, which only competed individually and not for team points.
Morrison finished in fourth place, with a time of 19:21. Lorio crossed the finish line eight seconds later for a fifth-place time of 19:29.
Junior Ian Renwick’s time of 19:51 was good for 10th place on the day, and senior Caden Mattson crossed the finish line for a 12th-place time of 20:05. Freshman Andrew Hipsky took 15th place with a time of 20:20 to close out the top-20 finishes for the Eagles.
Also competing for George Stevens Academy were junior Oliver Wilson (24th) and senior Nyamh Wolf (29th).
Crowley’s first place time of 21:08 was the only top-10 time on the girls’ side for the Eagles, but junior Grace Broughton finished just outside in 13th place with a time of 25:27. Junior Josie Czuj finished in 14th place with a time of 25:35.
The three runners were the only ones to compete on the girls’ side for the Eagles.
Deer Isle-Stonington High School was also represented at the race, as sophomore Henry Penfold ran for a 20th-place finish with a time of 21:12.
Next up in the cross-country postseason is the Northern Maine Championship, scheduled for 11 a.m. at Troy Howard Middle School in Belfast.
