Deer Isle—The girls basketball team beat Sumner 84-43 on January 10. We got off to a big lead and cruised from there. We got many points from our pressure defense and also shot well. Everyone got to play good minutes and the bench players played well, giving them valuable experience. Kaylee Morey led us with 26 points, Rylee Eaton had 22, and Lily Gray had 15.
The girls beat Greenville 48-43 in a close game on January 12. We were tied 25 each at the half and we pulled ahead by 5 points after three quarters. Greenville wasn’t bothered by our pressure and shot better than they had before. Greenville fought back in the fourth to tie it up, but we got key rebounds from Brienna Limeburner and Taylor Hardy to keep possession near the end. Kaylee Morey scored with a minute left to push our lead back to five which we maintained until the end.

We did not shoot well from the outside and that also gave Greenville more chances. Though we didn’t play as well as we can, we finished the game strong to hold onto the win. Greenville is the No. 2 team in Class D south, so they are a worthy opponent. Kaylee Morey led us with 18 points, Rylee Eaton had 12, Lily Gray had seven, and Taylor Eaton had six.
The girls are 10-0 and still on top of Class D. We have only one game until January 26, so we need to keep sharp for the string of games after that. Similar to last year, we don’t have a good strength of schedule to push us, so we have to do that from within to be in good shape for the tournament.
