Blue Hill—The George Stevens Academy girls and boys soccer teams dropped a pair of home games against Mount Desert Island High School on Wednesday, September 12, and Thursday, September 13. The girls were shut out in a 0-2 loss, while the boys game finished with a score of 1-4.
The loss was the second of the season for the Eagle girls, who are 1-2-1 with a lone win over Searsport District High School.
The girls were in Orono on Wednesday, September 19 (score not available at press time). The road schedule will continue through the next couple of games, with the team at Ellsworth on September 20 and at Houlton September 22. The next home game is scheduled for 4 p.m. against Deer Isle-Stonington High School.
On the boys side, the loss to Mount Desert Island was the team’s first of the season. The Eagles started out on a four game winning streak, but the Trojans were able to shut down the offense in the first half en route to the victory.
Mount Desert Island scored just one goal in the first half before erupting for three goals in the second half.
Ricardo Sanchez scored the only goal of the game for George Stevens Academy in the second half. The goal was assisted by Owen Vinall.
The team travels to Orono on September 20 for a rematch of last year’s Class C Northern Maine semifinals, where the Eagles were able to beat the Red Riots. Another road game is scheduled for Saturday, September 22, in Houlton before the team returns for a home game against Deer Isle-Stonington High School on Tuesday, September 25. Kick off for that game is scheduled for 4 p.m.
