DISHS boys soccer team works through struggles Scott's Sports Spot

Gaining control of the ball

Sophomore Dillan Steele gains control of the ball against a Searsport player at home on Saturday, September 15. By Jack Scott

Deer Isle—The boys soccer team lost to Searsport 10-0 on Saturday, September 15. We didn’t give up a goal for almost 25 minutes into the first half, but then Searsport scored 4 goals before the half. Searsport was able to either penetrate the defense or get a clear shot with hard kicks. We need to limit those shots as the goalie doesn’t stand much chance of stopping them. We needed to be more aggressive to the ball as we are starting to pass better and made several rushes on the Searsport goal.

The boys are 0-5 but finally have 14 players to work with. Compounding our troubles is that the teams we have faced so far are strong teams high in their class. That makes our learning curve that much steeper as we are working on getting the best combination of players in the positions. We have the talent to do much better and need to get fired up to win control of the ball.
