Blue Hill—The George Stevens Academy girls tennis team had successful postseason run, with a quaterfinal win over Houlton High School, 5-0, and the Fort Kent Warriors on 4-1 in the semifinals. The girls came up short in the regional finals on June 6, though, lossing to top seed Mattanawcook Academy.
In the semifinal contest, the doubles team of junior Yulia Heggestad and senior Katie Schweizer knocked out their opponents without dropping a game, winning 6-0, 6-0. The first doubles team of sophomore Chloe Politte and junior Libby Weed won their match, 7-5, 6-2.
“They were up 4-0 at one point (in the first set),” said head coach Tim Farrar. “They were able to hold off a comeback.”
Junior Courtney Bianco won her third singles match in straight sets, 6-2, 6-2, as did second singles player, sophomore Julianna Allen by a score of 6-2, 6-1.
Senior Lindsay Nevin was the only player to drop her match, losing in straight sets, 6-1, 6-1.
The team finished 10-2 in the regular season, good enough for a No. 2 ranking in the Class C North final standings. After losing to Mattanawcook Academy on April 30, they did not lose again until a May 21 rematch, losing again to the first place, unbeaten Lynx.
