Deer Isle—The girls softball team beat Sumner 11-9 on May 16 to avenge an earlier loss. We gave up 5 runs in the second inning but battled back to lead 8-7 after 4 innings, holding on to the lead from then on in. Katie Hutchinson pitched well with Sumner getting only 3 hits, but with 11 walks and 9 errors, it kept the game close.
Abby Stinson led us at the plate with a double and 3 singles for 4 RBIs and 3 stolen bases, Brienna Limeburner had a double and a single with 2 RBIs, Grace Morey and Kaley Eaton each had 2 singles with 2 RBIs, Kaylee Morey had a double and an RBI, and Amy Friedell had a single.
The girls lost to Greenville 9-2 on May 19. Katie Hutchinson and Brienna Limeburner combined to pitch a good game with only 2 walks and 3 hit batters. We out hit Greenville 6-4 and we scored our 2 runs in the first inning. Once again 5 errors hurt us and only 3 runs were earned.
Abby Stinson had an RBI double, Kaylee Morey had a double, Taylor hardy had an RBI single, and Kaley Eaton, Brienna Limeburner, and Katie Hutchinson each had a single.
The girls lost the second game to Greenville 9-4. We got behind early with Katie Hutchinson and Brienna Limeburner sharing the pitching. They combined for 7 walks and 4 hit batters but gave up only 4 hits. Once again, 7 errors hurt us against such a strong team.
We managed 3 hits, a triple by Brienna Limeburner, a double by Kaley Eaton, and an RBI single by Taylor Hardy. We also did well to only strike out 9 times in both games against fast pitching. Greenville is one of the top teams in southern Maine Class D.
The girls are 3-8 and currently in ninth place. I thought we hit the ball well against Greenville’s fast pitching and our pitching is getting much more consistent. If we can get in control of our errors, we should do well this week with 3 games that we should win this time around.

Baseball team scores season’s
first victory
The boys baseball team finally got their first win, beating Sumner 5-2 on May 16. Mason Oliver pitched the first 4 innings and Silas Bates finished. We led the whole game and though we had a few errors, we hit the ball well. The good news is that we held on at the end of the game this time to preserve our win.
Mason Oliver and Robby Turner each had 3 singles with an RBI, Myles Brown had 2 singles, Silas Bates had an RBI single, and Nathan Winchester and Cole Brown each had a single.
The boys lost to Greenville 11-1 on May 19. Coach Scott Oliver played many of the freshmen in this game to give them more game experience. Tobey Snow started pitching and Silas Bates pitched the last inning. We did suffer many errors, and we had no hits, with our one run coming from a walk to Silas Bates, then 2 stolen bases, and a passed ball.
The boys lost the second game of the double header to Greenville 5-3. We led 3-0 up to the fourth when Greenville got a big hit with the bases loaded. Mason Oliver started pitching and Silas Bates finished up. This was a much better played game, but we came up just short. Mason Oliver had an RBI single, and Tobey Snow and Silas Bates each had a single.
The boys are 1-8 and in 14th or 17th place, depending on which Standings you want to believe. The bottom line is that we have to get a couple more wins if we are going to get into the playoffs. We have been playing well against good teams and now we just have to finish those games to get more wins.
