Deer Isle—The boys baseball team lost a close game to Penobscot Valley 6-5 on April 20. Mason Oliver started the game pitching, with Silas Bates coming in in the third inning and Tobey Snow pitching the seventh. We trailed 5-0 going into the bottom of the third when we scored 4 runs, highlighted by a 3-run triple from Mason Oliver. Tyson Rice tied it up in the fifth with an RBI double, but PVHS scored a run in the sixth and held on for the win. We had the top of the order up in the seventh, but we hit into two quick outs and lost our momentum.

This was a well-played game against a good opponent. Coach Scott Oliver cited our solid defense to be the biggest factor with no errors. Hard to lose a game played so well and being so close. Steven Cochrane, Silas Bates, and Myles Brown each had singles.

The boys then lost to Bangor Christian 11-1 on April 23. We did not play as well in the field and our pitching was not accurate. The Bangor Christian pitcher had our number and we managed only 2 hits, a single by Mason Oliver and an RBI double by Tyson Rice. After such a good game with PVHS, it was disappointing to not play as well.

The boys are on a learning curve with many new players and ran into a strong pitcher against Bangor Christian. The pitch count rule makes it hard for us when we aren’t pitching with accuracy and we need to address that. If we can beef up the offense and continue to play good defense, we will find success.
