Future looks bright for DISHS baseball

Deer Isle—The boys baseball team lost a forgettable game to George Stevens 20-0 on May 29. This was better than our first effort against them but we were outmatched by this strong Class C team.

The boys played their best game of the season at the end, but still lost to Sumner 3-2 the next day. We scored two runs in the first inning when Myles Brown singled and then scored on a sacrifice fly by Coleman Brown. Tobey Snow later got to base on an error and was driven home by a single from Dillan Steele. Sumner got an unearned run in the third and then another in the fourth to tie it up.

Sumner got a runner on in the sixth by an error, and then was driven home by a single. We weren’t able to get the equalizer in the seventh. We played excellent defense except for the two untimely errors that cost us runs. Myles Brown pitched a great game, striking out four and keeping the hitters off balance. For hitters, Myles Brown had two singles, Nathan Thompson two singles, Tobey Snow a double, and Dillan Steele a single.

The boys came so close to their first victory, we could almost taste it. The improvement shown in the last third of the season was very noticeable and impressive. It was all attributable to our hard work throughout the season. It certainly bodes well for next year. We will certainly miss the leadership and play of captain Tobey Snow, but now we have a solid core to build on. With some work in the off season, I expect this team to start off next year being competitive right off the bat.
