The Eagles hosted Orono in a post-Christmas game on December 27, losing 37-29 in a battle lost in the fourth quarter.  The girls began the final minutes with a 27-21 lead but a strong Orono defense and a 16-2 outscoring  by the Red Riots contributed to the Eagle’s loss. Morgan Dauk scored 15 points and Hanna Gutow played strong from the floor. The girls are 4-3 after a win over Deer Isle-Stonington on December 23 at home.

The Eagles hit the road for their next three games, returning to home court on January 17 against Sumner.

Mariners face Penobscot Valley to start the new year

The Mariners boys and girls will host Penobscot Valley on January 3, with the girls starting things off at 1 p.m. Will the home crowd help turn things around for the teams? The girls are 1-4 after losses to GSA (59-42) on December 23 and Searsport (58-35) on December 20, while the boys are 2-5 after falling to Searsport 66-32 on December 19. Bu first, the girls travel to Sumner on Tuesday, December 30, with a 5:30 p.m. tip-off.

GSA varsity girls at 2-1after loss to Piscataquis

The Eagles lost at Piscataquis 41-26 on December 17 when the Pirates surged ahead in the second half, scoring 24 to GSA’s 10 points to clinch a 41-26 win. Morgan Dauk led with 15 pints, while Katrina Limeburner scored 7. The team is 2-1 with wins over Bucksport and Washington Academy. They face the Deer Isle-Stonington Mariners at GSA on December 23. Tip off is 7 p.m. But first, they play Searsport at home on December 18 at 7 p.m.

DIS Mariners vs. Bucksport results

The Deer Isle-Stonington Mariners and Lady Mariners played the Golden Bucks at Bucksport on Wednesday, December 10, with different but equally decisive results. The girls won 58-43 powered by Megan Shepard 22 points. Allyson Eaton had 17.

The boys fell 59-34 with scoring spread among Kris Melanio, Jared Gove, Matt Duddy, Paul Zoephal, Etahn Shepard, Noah Davis and Mason Oliver.

Both teams are 1-2 less than two weeks into the season.

Way to open the season! The GSA varsity Lady Eagles overpowered the Bucksport Golden Bucks at home on Thursday, December 11, jumping ahead in the first minutes of the game and never looking back. Megan Nowland, Morgan Dauk and Alice Dillon led socring for a final 50-42 win.

The boys are three games in and three games down after a 80-60 loss on Wednesday, December 10 to Washington Academy at home.
