Blue Hill—The George Stevens Academy boys basketball team took the season sweep over the Golden Bucks of Bucksport at home on Friday, January 10, with a 69-37 win.

The win was the 10th on the season in as many games for the Eagles, who have sailed through the top half of the 2019-2020 season.

The Golden Bucks scored first with a layup to start the game, but George Stevens Academy went on a 10-point run that forced Bucksport to call a timeout. The Eagles then went on another seven-point run before Bucksport put another point on the board.

After going up 28-6 in the first quarter, George Stevens Academy got to work offensively in the second, pouring in 17 points while the defense held Bucksport to just four to take a 45-10 lead at the half.

George Stevens Academy’s second unit saw more time in the second half, as the starters took to the bench to give the bench players more court time. The Eagles still put up 14 points in the quarter, and tacked on nine more in the fourth to seal the win.

Senior Caden Mattson led the scoring with 19 points for the Eagles, including three three-pointers, while sophomore David Gadsby put up 17 on the night.

The Eagles followed that game up with a 70-44 win over Sumner on January 13 at Sumner to keep the win streak alive.

George Stevens Academy has six games remaining on the regular season schedule, with home games against Calais (January 20), Deer Isle-Stonington High School (January 30) and Mattanawcook (February 4). The Eagles beat Calais earlier this season, 65-52, and also got the win over the Mariners in a nine-point 70-61 game, the closest margin of victory for the Eagles this season.

The Eagles also have away games scheduled against Searsport, Central and Narraguagus to close out the season. The team beat each of those opponents earlier this season.
