Season ends for GSA softball

Blue Hill—The George Stevens Academy softball team lost on Memorial Day to Class C defending state champion Bucksport 21-3, but midway through the game, the Eagles were only four runs behind.

After Bucksport jumped out to an early 6-0 lead in the second inning, the Eagles took advantage of struggling Bucks pitcher Mikayla Tripp. Tripp walked several GSA batters early in the third inning, and the runners were able to advance on passed balls. George Stevens Academy scored two runs off those passed balls to cut the lead to four going into the fourth.

Bucksport tacked on another run in the next inning, but GSA responded with a run of their own to put the game at 7-3. The Bucks settled in, though, and put another 14 runs across the plate to run away with the game.

Pitcher Sophie Peasley got the start in the circle for the Eagles.

The team also drove in three runs in an 18-3 loss to Dexter the following day, May 28, and closed out the season at Deer Isle-Stonington on May 29. The Eagles lost a nail-biter, 14-13.

The Eagles were 1-14 entering the game against the Mariners, a team they lost to 33-14 at home earlier this season. The 14 runs in that game were the most the squad put up in a game this year.
