BLUE HILL—More assurance in the field and the ability to shake off a failed play or an at-bat is what the George Stevens Academy softball team needs, according to Coach Todd Eckenfelder.
“We need to do a better job at being more confident in games, in the field.” He assessed his team’s performance after a May 6 loss at home to Deer Isle-Stonington.
“We need to be more resilient when things go wrong because things usually spiral when they do,” he added.
The Eagles scored 14 runs, the most out of the five games the team has played this rain-soaked season, but it wasn’t enough for a win, with the Mariners able to pull ahead for a 33-14 win.

The second-year coach also sees plenty of room for improvement in the Eagles’ hitting.
“We need to be more aggressive at bat, and attack more, rather than waiting for good things to just happen,” he continued.
The Eagles are still looking for a win after losses to Ellsworth, Dexter, Orono and Mattanawcook, all Class C teams, apart from Ellsworth, that sit solidly in the middle of the Heal Point Standings. The results from a scheduled Wednesday, May 8, game at top-ranked Bucksport were not available by press time.
One area Eckenfelder does see improvement is on the mound, with pitchers Sophie Peasley and Mallory Charette.

“In the early going we struggled finding the plate. Now our pitchers are more consistent but our fielding has slipped.”
The team’s next home game is Monday, May 13, against Orono, with the first pitch set for 4:30 p.m.
