Bangor—The boys basketball team made a valiant effort in losing to Jonesport 63-45 in their Class D North quarterfinal game in Bangor. We started out slow, probably nervous, with many turnovers in the first half. Too many errant passes gave Jonesport extra chances, and we trailed 36-18 at the half. The outside shots weren’t falling and Jonesport was active on the boards, out-rebounding us 21-10. They also had hands up on defense to cause our turnovers, 22 for the game.

In the third quarter, we had a couple spurts to close the gap some, but Jonesport had the answer and we trailed 47-29 after three quarters. We came to life in the fourth quarter, starting off with a 12-2 run that ended with a Nathan Thompson three-pointer, closing the gap to eight points. Missed foul shots, turnovers, and an unfortunate player control foul stalled our momentum, and we ran out of gas.

Jonesport took back control of the game and we didn’t have an answer. We fought hard all game and didn’t give up, playing a much stronger second half. This was a good team effort and will be good experience to carry us into next year. Coleman Brown led us with 13 points, Nathan Thompson had 12, Dillan Steele had eight, and Myles Brown had six.
