The George Stevens Academy varsity girls basketball team caught a very early four-point lead before falling to undefeated Calais 62-30 on January 19 in Blue Hill. The 18th ranked Eagles followed that up with a tight game against Class B Ellsworth (11-3) on January 22, losing 42-37—a much narrower margin than the teams’ first matchup in December when the Eagles lost by 33 points. With 13 games behind them and five to play, the Eagles are 3-10 and ranked 18th in the Heal Point Standings, four spots and a load of tournament points behind the last playoff berth. The Eagles play at Sumner (2-10) on January 25 at 6:30 p.m. and host Bucksport (1-10)on January 30, both teams they grabbed wins over earlier this season.
