Blue Hill—The Class C North Heal Point Standings are in a constant state of fluctuation these days, as the top five teams have been flip-flopping over the past several weeks.
The George Stevens Academy boys basketball team was in fourth with an 11-1 record as of January 23. Central Aroostook High School holds the top spot at 13-1, while Houlton and Mattanawcook Academy hold the second and third spots, respectively.
The Eagles have been unstoppable for the last month, and have not lost a game since December 14, when the team was upset by Ellsworth. They have since amassed a 9-0 record, and have held each opponent to under 50 points per game.
Offensively, George Stevens Academy has averaged 66 points per game in the last nine games, with different players contributing big points in each outing.
In the team’s most recent 75-46 win against Lee Academy on January 16, sophomore Andrew Szwez paced the Eagles with 21 points, while junior Caden Mattson and senior Reece Dannenberg each had 13.
The next game for the Eagles is scheduled for Friday, January 25, in Calais. Originally scheduled for the 21st, the game was rescheduled due to heavy snowfall the previous day. George Stevens Academy beat the Blue Devils 55-42 in the first matchup between the two teams earlier in the season.
The team will play two more games on the road before a home game on February 2 against Ellsworth, where they will look for redemption from the loss over a month ago. The Eagles will close out regular season play on February 7 at home against Narraguagus, and will then look to begin preparation for another February break spent defending their three-time Class C North title at the Cross Insurance Center in Bangor.
