Deer Isle—The girls basketball team beat Bangor Christian 56-27 on January 3. We controlled the game, pulling out to a 31-8 lead, only to have BC score the last seven points in the second quarter to close our lead to 31-15 at the half. We took charge in the third quarter to lead 41-18 after three quarters and cruised from there on. The subs closed out the game, once again gaining valuable floor time. Rylee Eaton led us with 20 points, Kaylee Morey had 13, Lily Gray had 11, and Taylor Hardy had five.

The girls beat Jonesport 67-50 on January 7. We got off to a sluggish start on defense and led only 33-30 at the half after trailing Jonesport in the first quarter. We ramped up the pressure in the third quarter to extend the lead to 47-36 and pulled away in the last quarter. We certainly were in control, but our defense was not as good as it can be. Rylee Eaton led us with 28, Kaylee Morey had 14, Lily Gray and Brienna Limeburner each with eight, and Katie Hutchinson had six.

The girls are still undefeated and on top of Class D. We are playing well, but similar to last year, we have to keep our focus in all the games to keep sharp. We need to take control early and not be over confident. Our defense is our saving grace when we have nights where we don’t shoot well.
