Blue Hill—The Eagles kept the pressure on the Orono Red Riots during their penultimate match of the regular season October 12, and walked off the field with a 2-1 win, payback for an earlier 5-2 loss to the third-ranked team.
Orono scored its first and only goal midway through the first period, but GSA evened the score off a penalty kick by Chris Bennett less than 90 seconds later.
Lars Hooper scored the Eagles’ second goal with 7:35 left in the first period for a 2-1 lead that the Eagles held onto until the final buzzer.
Orono had some chances, most memorably a penalty kick in the second half that soared over the goal net, but could not score twice. Goalkeeper Parker Allen saved 10 of 11 at the net for the Eagles.
The team returned to home field on Saturday, October 13, to face Houlton under chill and drizzling skies, and were unable to score, falling 1-0 to the #2 team in their last regular season match. The Eagles are 9-5 and ranked seventh in the Heal Point Standings, just missing the cut to earn a bye for the preliminary playoff game. They will face #10 Piscataquis, at home on October 19, with match time to be announced.
