BANGOR—In a bid for a quarterfinal playoff berth, Deer Isle-Stonington went on a fourth-quarter streak of three-point shooting against #8 Bangor Christian at Eastern Maine Community College February 14.  At the buzzer the Mariners were down by 11, falling  65-76, but had cut a 20 point deficit at the start of the fourth quarter to nine points with over three minutes on the clock, making for a tense finish to the Class D preliminary playoff game before a raucous home team crowd

A half-time Bangor Christian’s lead of 40-19 extended to 60-40 heading into the final quarter before the Mariners tightened up their defense and upped their shot-making.  But foul trouble by the DIS varsity team brought Bangor Christian to the free throw lines where they were able to keep their lead, and took senior Mason Oliver out of the game with 0:59 on the clock.

Oliver led the Mariners with 28 points, while freshman Myles Brown netted 25 points—five of them came from beyond the three-point line.

The ninth-ranked Mariners and first-year coach Izaac Bolduc end the season 4-13.
