The following spring sports awards were handed out this week. Tennis coach Mark Churchill handed out the following awards: For girls tennis, Jordyn Judkins, MVP Award; Emma Plummer, Most Improved Award; and Eliza Borntraeger, Most Officious Award. For boys tennis, Devon Emrick, MVP Award; Ben Penfold, Most Improved.
For softball, Coach Darian Gove handed out the following awards: Lily Gray, Most Versatile Award; Abby Stinson, Most Versatile Award; Katie Hutchinson, Highest Batting Average Award and Highest On Base Percentage Award; Brittany Gray, Defensive Award; Amy Friedell, Team Spirit Award; Brienna Limeburner, Top Newcomer Award; and Kristin Thompson, Most Valuable Base Runner Award.
For baseball, Coach Randy Shepard handed out the following awards: Silas Bates, Gold Glove Award; Mason Oliver, Lowest ERA Award; Tobey Snow, Most Stolen Bases Award and Highest On Base Percentage Award; Robby Turner, Most Improved Award; Tyson Rice, Most Improved award; Arthur Peixoto, Rookie of the Year Award, and Ethan Shepard, Jeffrey Fowler Leadership Award.
From the notes of an old sports writer, I will say that I was impressed with the contribution of our South American transfer students to spring sports. I wasn’t surprised to see them excel in soccer, but Rodrigo Cespedes did very well in tennis and Arthur Peixoto excelled in baseball. They have some good stories to go home with.
