Blue Hill—The George Stevens Academy girls varsity basketball team closed out their regular season with wins against Searsport (45-25) on February 8 and Penquis Valley (48-39) on February 10.
Neither victory earned them enough tournament points to bump them back into the top Heal Point spot, where they stood for much of the season. They are ranked second in the 18-team field, with losses to #3 Piscataquis and Class B Ellsworth for a 16-2 record, behind #1 Stearns (17-1).
With a bye for the preliminary playoff game, the Lady Eagles will face either #7 Calais or #10 Penobscot Valley in the quarterfinal at the Cross Center in Bangor.
After losing in the preliminary playoff game the past three years, this is the first trip to the quarterfinals for seniors Morgan Dauk, who has led the team in scoring all season, Sarah Mullen, Tatiana Heggestad and Josie Clark.
If the teams in the bottom of the Class C tournament draw perform to their ranking, the Eagles will face what could be a tough semifinal against Piscataquis, with whom they split games this season, losing by four points in their second meeting after winning by a wide margin back in December.
Quarterfinal tip-off is 11:05 a.m. on Wednesday, February 22.
