CALAIS—The Eagle varsity girls lost a close preliminary playoff game at Calais on February 10 to end their season.
In the fight for a quarterfinal berth, the Eagles lost 53-51 in overtime, after leading Calais well into the fourth quarter.
The ninth-ranked Eagles had jumped to a quick lead, ending the first quarter 18-3, and maintained a lead throughout, with a 28-12 lead at halftime and 36-26 going into the fourth. That was when #8 Calais raised their level of play to tie at 46 at the end of the fourth quarter. The Blue Devils edged out the win in overtime.
The Eagles had split games with Calais during the regular season, with a 53-48 loss at Calais early and a 51-45 win at home, late. The GSA team ends their season 13-6.
The top-ranked boys varsity team faces #8 Fort Kent in a quarterfinal game on February 16, at the Cross Center in Bangor. Tip off is at 3:35 p.m.
