BANGOR—The dream continues for the Deer Isle-Stonington varsity boys basketball team, who grabbed a 63-57 quarterfinal win over #2 Schenck at the Cross Insurance Center February 17. The seventh-ranked Mariners used strong defense throughout all four quarters to shut down the Wolverines in the fourth quarter, after the teams were neck-and-neck straight from tip off.

The Mariners pushed hard in the first half but were edged 28-27 by Schenck at the half-time buzzer. Opening the second half, he Mariners quickly tied the game at 32 within the opening minutes of the second half, off five straight points by Coleman Brown. The Mariners then led 44-40 at the end of the third quarter and never looked back. With both teams in foul trouble for most of the fourth quarter, the Mariners were able to capitalize and extended their lead for a 63-57 win.
Myles Brown and Coleman Brown led the Mariners with 23 and 22 points, respectively, with Nate Thompson adding 8, Zachary Billings scored 4, and Dillan Steele and Dillon Thompson chipped in 2 points.
The Mariners will be back at the Cross Center court on ThursdayFebruary 20, at 7 p.m. where they face #6 Easton for a chance at playing in the regional finals on Saturday.
