Deer Isle—The boys basketball team beat Bucksport 73-56 on December 19. We led 20-12 after the first quarter and built the lead more after that. Bucksport had a couple players suspended, so they were no match for us. Coleman Brown led us with 25 points, Myles Brown 21, and Zach Billings 11.
The boys easily beat Islesboro 83-38 on December 21. This was a mis-match and on top of that we shot the ball well. We hit 13 three-pointers, of which Myles Brown had nine. Myles Brown led us with 27 points, Nate Thompson 14, Dillan Steele had nine, and Dylan Thompson had eight,
The boys got a good win over Machias in Machias 74-46 on December 27. We only led by five points early in the second period, but with good rebounding and defense, we steadily pulled ahead and built a big lead. We had good balanced scoring with Myles Brown leading us with 25 points, Coleman Brown 19, Dylan Thompson 16, and Nate Thompson with nine.
The boys beat Greenville 69-55 on December 30. We stretched a 20-14 lead into double digits, leading 55-38 after three quarters. We got sloppy in the beginning of the last quarter, throwing the ball away and forcing passes, allowing Greenville to close the gap to 57-51 with three minutes left. After Coach Don Allen took a time out to settle us down, we closed out the game with Myles Brown hitting two baskets and four foul shots to secure the win. Grenville dropped in eight three-pointers. Myles Brown led us with 23 points, Coleman Brown 20, and Dillon Steele with 12. When we were focused, we passed well inside for easy shots.
The boys are 6-1, currently in the top three in Class D, and playing well. I can’t remember having so many games over the Christmas break as each team had four games. We are relentless and have a deep bench, with many players who can score if too much attention is put on Myles Brown. Our big test of where we are will come next week against Jonesport.
