Orono—A small portion of the George Stevens Academy indoor track team competed in the second meet of the season at the University of Maine in Orono on December 28.

Junior Grace Broughton’s first-place finish in the 55-meter hurdles highlighted the day for the girls’ team, which came in sixth, while junior Ian Renwick’s first place finish in the boys long jump event marked the best finish for the boys’ team, which came in fifth.

Junior Elia O’hara came in seventh place as the only George Stevens Academy runner participating in the girls 55-meter dash, while junior Josie Czuj took fifth place in the girls 1-mile run. Czuj also came in fifth place in the 800-meter run.

Broughton and O’hara competed in the 200-meter dash, taking third place and eighth place, respectively.

On the boys’ side, junior Syrus Ordway came in fourth place in the 55-meter hurdles, and freshman Andrew Hipsky cracked the top-10 in the 1-mile run with a ninth-place finish. Junior Russel LaMarre finished 13th in the 400-meter dash, while freshman Micah Bryan took 11th in the 800-meter run.

Neither team competed in relays during the event.

The team is back in action this Saturday, January 4, at the UMaine in Orono Fieldhouse. That meet is a relay event and is scheduled for a 2:30 p.m. start.
