Blue Hill—The George Stevens Academy boys basketball team kept its undefeated season alive with an 80-31 lopsided victory over Searsport at home on December 30.
Sophomore David Gadsby got the scoring going for the Eagles in the first quarter, recording all of the team’s first six points. The rest of the starters got involved in the offense after that, pouring in 22 points while holding the Vikings to just seven to close out the first eight minutes.
In the second quarter, the offense exploded again for 24 points, behind solid defensive play as the Eagles forced turnovers that turned into baskets. At the half, George Stevens Academy led 46-12.
Head coach Dwayne Carter rotated through his roster during the third quarter, cycling between his starters and bench players. The team still put up 21 points in the quarter, and rolled through the fourth with primarily the second unit to get the win.
Senior Caden Mattson led the way with 17 points on the night for the Eagles, while senior Austin Snow and junior Michael Moon contributed 14 and 11 points, respectively.
The Eagles are currently 7-0 and in the top spot of the Class C North standings, with Dexter in a close second, also with a 7-0 record. The team is scheduled to start the new year with back-to-back home games against Narraguagus (January 3) and Bucksport (January 10). Both games are scheduled to tip off at 7 p.m.
