Deer Isle-Stonington High School’s Taytum Chase gets her foot on the ball during a home game against Schenck on October 5. By Jack Scott
Deer Isle—The girls soccer team beat Narraguagis 3-1 on October 2. Jill McDonald scored first by crashing the goal and booting in a loose ball. Shortly after that, Kaylee Morey scored on a direct kick from just outside the 18-yard line. Taytum Chase scored early in the second half from an assist from Jill McDonald. Katie Hutchinson was superb in goal with several grade A saves. We had nine shots on goal despite controlling the play for most of the game. Narraguagis had five shots on goal.
The girls lost to Schenck 2-0 on October 5. Schenck scored a goal in the first half to lead 1-0. We played hard in the second half and I really thought we were going to even up the game as we had a lot of good opportunities. With only about 10 minutes left, a Schenck forward made an impressive goal by kicking a pass across the goal mouth out of the air. We pressed them to get a score, but it wasn’t to be.
The girls are 2-6-1 and are playing even with the teams we face despite our small numbers. We are on the cusp of the playoff standings. We are passing and communicating well. Katie Hutchinson has done very well taking over the goalie position.
