DISHS softball team throwing strikes at end of regular season

Deer Isle—The girls softball team beat Bangor Christian 28-8 on May 22. Brittany Gray did a good job with the pitching giving up five hits. We hit the ball well to make it a five-inning game. Kaylee Morey had two triples and two singles for two RBIs, Brienna Limeburner had a home run and a single for five RBIs, Makayla Lebel had a double and two singles for four RBIs, Abby Stinson had three singles for three RBIs, and Haley Hardy had a double.

The girls beat Schenck 11-8 with another seventh inning comeback the following day, May 23. Coach Hollan Oliver felt this was one of our best games this year. Schenck started to hit pitcher Taylor Hardy pretty hard, so Coach Oliver put in Brittany Gray to pitch the sixth inning to throw their timing off. She gave up only one run and we came up in the top of the seventh trailing 8-7.

Kaylee Morey led off the inning with a double and stole third. That fired us up and we scored four runs that inning. Taylor Hardy came back to pitch in the bottom of the seventh and struck out Schenck’s top hitter (who had hit a home run earlier) with two runners on base to seal the victory. Lily Gray had three singles, Kristin Thompson had two singles with three RBIs, Abby Stinson had two singles with two RBIs, and Makayla Lebel had two singles with an RBI.

The girls are 10-4 and in fifth place in Class D North. We have two games this week and then we will host a preliminary playoff game on Tuesday June 4. We are playing well and hope to make a good run in the playoffs. Our only losses have been to the two top teams in Class D, so we know how we have to play to beat them.
