Deer Isle—The girls softball team christened their reconditioned softball field with a come from behind win to beat Schenck 9-7 on May 1. We trailed 5-1 after three innings on a few walks and hits by Schenck. Pitcher Taylor Hardy settled down and we tightened up our defense. We scored three runs in the fourth and two in the fifth to go ahead, using bunts and aggressive base running.
Schenck got a two-run home run in the sixth, but we came right back at them with three runs to take the lead for good. We played solid defense to get Schenck out in the seventh for the win. Taylor Hardy gave up five hits with two strikeouts. Taylor Hardy also had two hits and two RBIs, Brienna Limeburner had a single and a double with two RBIs, Abby Stinson had a triple and a single with an RBI, Kaylee Morey had two hits with an RBI, and Grace Morey had two singles with an RBI.

The girls are 4-1 and playing very well. We are driving the ball hard and getting many hits. Unfortunately, with our schedule this year, we are playing top teams or bottom teams. The top teams test us so we will play well under pressure. The bottom teams do allow us to give experience to younger players, but we can’t play as hard as we should and can pick up bad habits. Next Monday we have a rematch with PVHS, the top team in Class D, and this will show where we are mid-season. Come out to see a great game.
