GSA baseball team jumps out to hot season start Undefeated through three games

Blue Hill—Rain and poor conditions have led to scheduling conflicts throughout the state during the early weeks of the spring sports season, but it has not deterred the George Stevens Academy baseball team from starting a perfect 3-0.

With wins over Mattanawcook Academy (4-0), Orono (3-1) and Dexter (11-4), the Eagles have gotten off to a quick start this season, despite hardly being able to get on the field for preseason training.

The team is currently in third place in the Class C North standings, which will begin to fluctuate as teams start getting more games in. Bucksport holds the top spot for the time being, a team the Eagles will face on the road on May 8 for the first of two regular season matchups between the two schools.

The Eagles have turned to juniors Memphis Parker and Austin Snow for early starts from the mound, both of whom have recorded wins without needing saves from the relief pitchers.

The bats have also been hot for the Eagles during the first three games, outscoring their opponents 18-5. Some of that is also due to base running strategy by the coaches, as the team has taken advantage of speedy running to produce more run opportunities.

The team has four games over the course of the next seven days, traveling to Mattanawcook on Thursday, May 2, before hosting Deer Isle-Stonington High School on May 6.
